Salmon of Knowledge

€160.00Price

This story marks the very beginning of the legendary path of Finn McCool (Fionn mac Cumhaill), Ireland’s greatest mythical hero. Before he led the warrior band of the Fianna, young Finn served as an apprentice to the druid Finegas, who spent years searching for the elusive Salmon of Knowledge.

The Salmon of Knowledge dwelled in Connla’s Well — a mystical spring in the Celtic Otherworld, shaded by nine sacred hazel trees. As the hazelnuts fell into the crystal waters, the salmon consumed them, absorbing the magical power of poetic wisdom, foresight, and ultimate truth (Imbas).

When Finegas finally caught the fish, he ordered Finn to cook it, strictly forbidding him from tasting even a single bite. But while cooking, a drop of scalding oil burned Finn's thumb. Instantly putting his finger in his mouth to soothe the pain, he tasted the fish — and all the ancient wisdom of the world passed to him, launching the epic adventures of Ireland's legendary protector.

Crafted as a companion piece to the Salmon of Knowledge pendant, these earrings feature concentric silver rings symbolizing ripples on the surface of Connla's Well. Each earring holds three sacred hazelnuts falling into the water. Together with the three hazelnuts on the matching pendant, they complete the nine sacred hazelnuts of wisdom that surrounded the mystical spring.
