Small Cross Pattee sterling silver pendant with rhodolite front view

Cross Pattee

€170.00Price

This is one of the most ancient forms of Christian and chivalric crosses.

It is precisely this shape—with arms widening towards the ends—that was worn by the Knights Templar and the Teutonic Order on their cloaks and shields.

This form also traces its origins back to the Byzantine jewelry tradition and early medieval epics.

During the Byzantine and Medieval eras, large cabochons or gemstones were frequently set into the center of cross pattée designs, symbolizing the "Navel of the World," a spiritual center, or the Divine Eye.

The embossed floral and geometric patterns on the cross arms emulate 10th–13th century Byzantine filigree and European repoussé metalwork.

Available in two sizes. Insert options include peridot, citrine, and rhodolite.
